Introduction

Venice International Film Festival is the oldest film festival in the world. The Golden Lion is well known throughout the world as a symbol of worth, prized from the Venice International Film Festival. The festival is also not a simply stand alone event, it has been a part of the Venice Biennale for over a century (since 1895), now considered one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world.

It retains a grey eminence unshaken by many changes over the years, the prestige of its competitive selections and awards undiminished by the rise of myriad upstart rivals.
