Introduction

Founded in 1946, the Festival del film Locarno has occupied a unique position in the landscape of the major film festivals. The open-air on a screen 26×14 meters is only one of the attractions in Locarno. The festival is well known as a place of discover, where new trends and new talents are found and launched alongside major successes. Claude Chabrol, Stanley Kubrick and Spike Lee they all have their beginnings here.

The Locarno Film Festival is well known worldwide as a festival of discovery. Throughout its history the festival has discovered new trends and launched the careers of numerous directors and actors. Although the festival aims at the films, rather than at stars and glamour, several well-known personalities of the international film industry have visited the Locarno International Film Festival in recent years.
